About Green Money Project
The “Green Money Project” is a comprehensive strategy for the engagement of the youth in agriculture aimed at improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and fostering inclusive economic growth.
The GMP project was designed to address various constraints hindering youth to effectively participate in agriculture and to empower them through re-orientation, capacity building, incentives, and support for Agro-businesses and value chain development.
The GMP initiative is in alignment with of the effort to enhance the delivery of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Agriculture especially food security which tops Mr. President’s priority list.
The 2025 edition is bigger and better, focusing on youth, women, and vulnerable populations who are ready to explore income-generating activities that are climate-smart and impactful.
Project Objectives
- To reposition agriculture as a viable and lucrative venture in the minds of Nigerian youths.
- To contribute and improve food security significantly and sustainably using unemployed youths as a tool of transformation.
- To contribute to and increase productivity, innovation and market access ofrr agriculture in Nigeria.
Project Premise
To ensure transparency and wide reach, the Green Money Project 2025 program has it framework which include:
Perception of agriculture
Young Nigerians perceive agriculture as laborious-intensive, low-paying, and lacking in prestige, leading to a preference for urban employment opportunities. Youths detest subsistent and traditional means of farming. They want more.
Limited access to information and technology
Many young people face challenges accessing land for agricultural activities due to land tenure systems, high land prices, and competition from older generations.
Lack of appropriate skills and training
Many young people lack the necessary skills and technical knowledge required for modern agricultural practices.
Limited access to vocational training and agricultural education exacerbates this issue
Lack of adequate infrastructure
Poor infrastructure, including roads, storage facilities, and market access, hampers youth engagement in agriculture by increasing transportation costs and reducing market opportunities.
Limited access to land
Many young people face challenges accessing land for agricultural activities dye to land tenure systems, high land prices, and competition from older generations.
Insecurity and conflicts
In regions affected by insecurity and conflicts, such as insurgency and banditry, youth are discouraged from engaging in agriculture due to safety concerns and disruption of farming activities.
Limited access to finance
Youths often lack the financial resources to invest in agriculture due to limited access to credit, high-interest rates, and stringent collateral requirements from financial institutions.
The Strategy
To ensure transparency and wide reach, the Green Money Project 2025 program has been built on the following strategies:
Stimulate
- Ploughing the minds of youths in a way that stirs interest and grows their appetite for mechanized farming via relevant media channels. This will help reposition Agriculture to be an attractive and viable venture. Media campaign will take the lead here using successful farmers across Nigeria to illustrate what is possible.
Cultivate
- Training and empowering via hands-on and practical experience of existing and successful farms will help build the youths beyond theoretical exercises. It’s all practical and less theory.
Activate
- On completion of the on-the-job training on farms, each participant is activated to start their own Farms with allocation of lands, provision of seeds, equipment and other resources to start farming at THE GREEN MONEY FARMERS’ ESTATE
Eligibility Criteria
To ensure transparency and wide reach, the eligibility criteria for the Green Money Project 2025 are broad yet targeted. You’re eligible to apply if:
- Applicants should be aged 18-40 years old.
- Be a Nigerian citizen or permanent resident.
- Minimum of secondary school education.
- Resident in any of the 36 states of Nigeria or the Federal Capital Territory.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in agriculture or agribusiness.
- Willingness to participate in training programs and workshops.
- Interest in developing or expanding an agricultural business.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills.
- Capable of engaging in agricultural activities.
- Should not have previously benefited from similar government agricultural programs.
